Mixes for Outdoor Containers

New For 2004!!!

NEW PRO-MIX® ULTIMATE CONTAINER MIX GIVES HOMEOWNERS THE GROWERS EDGE

Container gardening is all the rage and planting in a top quality soilless potting mix helps to insure your potted pretties will flower and thrive all summer long!

Now gardeners have a new secret weapon that works where plants need it most – in the root zone.

Premier Horticulture is introducing this spring PRO-MIX® Ultimate Container Mix. Formulated with waterholding crystals and a nine-month supply of control-release fertilizer, homeowners can plant, water and enjoy bigger and longer lasting plants and flowers with half the work.

"While most homeowners and gardeners tend their gardens above ground, the success of any gardening adventure often depends on what goes on in the soil," says author and Today Show garden expert Jeff Ball.

"For plants to flourish they must have a healthy root system," he explains. "That’s why good quality potting mix makes such a big difference on a plant’s ability to flower and thrive."

Using a peat-based potting mix that contains 80 to 85 percent Canadian Sphagnum peat moss gives homeowners the same growers edge professionals have enjoyed for decades. It’s lightweight, water retentive and easy to use.

Premier’s new premium peat-based potting soil PRO-MIX® Ultimate Container Mix doesn’t stop there. It does the two things many homeowners neglect to do for their outdoor container plants – feed and water.

This new soilless mix combines high-grade Sphagnum moss with just the right horticultural ingredients and fertilizer to get plants off to a healthy start and keep them blooming full-tilt all season.

The control-release fertilizer continuously and gently feeds flowers for up to nine months with a complete, balanced formula that contains the much needed micro and macronutrients with important elements such as manganese, iron, and zinc.

Keeping containers watered in sun drenching heat can be a real chore, but PRO-MIX® Ultimate Container Mix needs water less often thanks to the addition of water absorbing crystals that act as tiny moisture-holding reservoirs.

To activate the water crystals after planting it’s important to give containers a thorough watering and repeat the process again the following day. From there on, water as needed.

"The good news is you’ll water less often and your healthy stress-free flowers will put in a stunning performance," says Ball.

Because roots need air to survive, soil aeration is of prime importance in container gardens and PRO-MIX® Ultimate Container Mix includes a combination of perlite and vermiculite to increase the oxygen flow in the soil, further improving drainage while increasing water and nutrient retention.

"The key is what is under the plant," says Ball. "What promotes healthy roots grows healthy plants."

Look for PRO-MIX® Ultimate Container Mix in handy metallic blue metallic bags at garden centers everywhere. And don’t forget to check out the label, it contains complete instructions for use along with additional planting tips. It’s good reading.
