False Cypress

False Cypress trees are varied in their color, size and shapes, but many types make useful ornamental plants for residential yards and gardens of the U.S., especially Hinoki False Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) and Sawara False Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera). They are very much at home in this country because they are able to tolerate the drier atmosphere. The False Cypress are large pyramidal, almost columnar trees with pendulous branches at the tips. Most are slow growing evergreens that ultimately become stately trees. Those that are native to North America are most comfortable on the Pacific Coast where they receive the moisture they crave.
