Planting Maple Trees

Maples grow best in full sun, but tolerate light shade. They prefer a well-drained soil that is acid to neutral (pH 5.5 to 7.0) but they accept almost any soil as long as it is kept slightly moist. Sugar maples are more demanding of moist soil than silver maples which will tolerate dry soil to an extent.
